Here's something I did in East London recently on the side of the 'Village underground' building to coincide with the launch of Vandalog's show entitled 'The Thousands' featuring an impressive array of work from some of world's most celebrated street artists.

For the majority of the past month or so I've also been working alongside music producer Michael Asante on a really exciting project in conjunction with what I can only describe as an urban dance version of 'The Pied Piper' which deputed earlier this year at The Barbican to critical acclaim. This December It's back and I've been brought on board to recreate 12 illustrations/paintings to feature in a new audio/visual soundtrack that acts as a prequel to the 'Pied Piper' entitled 'Rat's Lair'. Confused? I was too at first but it's shaping up to be a really interesting cross media project, and the first time I've been involved in producing sequential artwork since my comic 'No Strings' back in 2005.

I'm looking forward to sharing what I've been up to and am currently proposing to the Barbican that I can exhibit the works to coincide with the opening night of the play.

At the beginning of the month I was invited by Alex and Henry of Spoonfed to come paint there offices in East London to brighten the place up and give the company (who deal with events in London) a painting to reflect the city's vibrancy. To give the employers a surprise in the morning, the wall was painted from 6:30pm until around 2:30am. I'll update this post with the 'making of' video once I receive it. Until then, here's what went down...

I was beginning to think I'd been cursed by Black Rock as my last few paintings at this spot by the coast over the years have been 'fails'. Luckily, over the weekend I managed to pull out something I was happy with.

Despite bringing down two relatively polished sketches, this one ended up being a freestyle.

Occasionally I get the urge to paint something a little kinkier on a larger scale but painting in the street often means you have to face the fact that some members of the public are more open minded than others...that and the fact certain pieces probably shouldn't be viewed by kids or the elderly. When offered the chance to paint the lower ground floor of Brighton based gallery 'Prescription art', I jumped at the chance to let the dark side out, especially given the murky atmosphere and twisted art on display...

Well I've relocated to Brighton (The South coast of England) and It's all going smoothly (touch wood). The city's always been a melting pot of inspiration and the liberal attitude and creativity within the community means the art scene is booming. Here's a piece I painted over the weekend about 10 minutes away from my new apartment.

Unfortunately I made the fatal error of not keeping an eye on my paint forgetting that Summer holidays and bored 10 year olds can mean trouble and before I knew it, some kid had gotten a hold of one of my cans and took it upon himself to make a mess on mine and some of the surrounding pieces after I had left...oh well, - can't control the weather.

For those who have enquired about my availability concerning non-illustration related projects in London (ie; exhibiting, private commissions and mural work), I'm only an hour away so It's business as usual.

So...a big thanks to everyone that braved the weather and problems on the tube to make it to the private view of our show lastnight. Good times...

I also decided to exhibit my 'Song for Lovers' piece. I think this photo gives a better idea of the scale (1 metre X 1 metre).

I'm still waiting for some more 'interior photos', but as you can see, alongside Rabodiga and Bonzai, I painted directly onto a few of the upstairs walls...

Downstairs, we were given free reign to go bonkers, which we pretty much did considering there were no windows, air con or ventillation of any kind down there. Maskless, I had to paint my stuff in 30 minute bursts to avoid passing out. We did ok though...I also have to give it up for Rabodiga, who spent a large portion of her birthday down there!

The exhibition has been extended until August 1st for anyone interested in checking it out (DO IT!).

So Zurich was a blast...I really did'nt know what to expect but found everyone I met to be very cool and the city itself probably the cleanest Iv'e ever seen. The only drawback was how expensive everything was. We did'nt win the Art Clash competition but we were probably too drunk to have made it through the final rounds anyway. Luckily we got to hang out with some great artists and managed to drop a wall before catching out flight home (which we nearly missed).

Here are some flicks of what went down. In an attempt to keep this blog as professional as possible, I'll keep it art related...

Club interior

Was asked to paint the interior of the London nightclub 'The Den' (formally known as 'The End'), in Holborn about a fortnight ago. It's recently changed hands and the new name for the club escapes me.

Had a nasty experience here about 8 years ago and had not been back since, so was strange to be painting it all these years later.

As you can see, it was pretty much impossible to get a decent photo due to the lighting conditions.

My buddy Tizer painted the wall opposite.

So here are some flicks of my work from the 'Nightmare before christmas' show...

Painted on the gated entrance to nightclub 'SIN', situated on Charing Cross rd, right under Centre point. Spots don't get much better!

I was invited over the weekend by my good friend Sri to take part in the Heavy Pencil' at the ICA. Myself, Sri and Dan Duce spent the evening on rotation drawing onto sheets of A3 paper that were projected onto a large wall whilst the crowd studied the process (between drinking and talking about obscure black and white French cinema).

Cold hearted

So I spent 2 days freezing my ass off (If you live in England right now, you'll know what I mean) painting this piece on the front of 'The Foundry' in East London. (It's not the most complicated of pieces, but I decided to go back on the 2nd day and start again as I decided I hated my first attempt). Sadly the piece was painted painted over by the council 3 days later. I had been given permission to paint there and the buffers hadn't even asked if the owner of the building wanted it removed or not (He of course did'nt). A little dissapointing but not surprising in this 'pre olimpic graffiti eradication era'.

The piece in it's final days caught some healthy air time. Here's a great shot courtesy of Bravo99...

This was the only shot of about 30 to survive the poor lighting conditions...

LA/SF/PIXAR!

So earlier last month I visited the states for the first time, touching down in LA for 2 days before flying into San Francisco for the Totoro forest project auction, after being selected as 1 of 200 artists to create a piece inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece.

Here are some pics from my travels...

I hadn't expected to be able to paint anything in LA seeing as I had no idea where to find paint or where to find any spots within the rushed 48 hours of my stay, but after realising I was staying down the road from the infamous Venice beach spot, I could'nt let the oppurtunity pass me by so after meeting a friend of a friend who knew what was what, I managed to knock a little something out...

One of the highlights from my stay in San Francisco was finding the ideal place to get a trim whilst in town...

After a week in Oakland I arrived at the Pixar studios (later to be referred to as Willy Wonker's chocolate factory) alongside fellow artists Steven Walker and David Leonard...a pretty cool moment.

Unfortunately we had to leave our cameras at reception so I don't have any personal photos of the auction itself but here are some great shots from photographer Carlos Baena...

All of the proceeds from the sold artwork (Every piece got snapped up!) will go towards the Totoro forest fund...a very worthy cause.

Seeing as some of the sections on my website are yet to be updated, here are a few bits and pieces to fill in the gaps...

Teamed up with the good guys at Studio Rarekwai lastnight and exhibited a new canvas at the Whitechapel Gallery as part of a night showcasing art from different cultures alongside Some great Hiphop/turntablelism from Open Sauce...Studio Rarekwai have a really dope book due out this month that I'll mention as soon as I get the thumbs up from them...

Here's the new piece...It's entitled 'The Unreachable'. It's about the struggle for a glory that doesn't exist and the people that might try and stop you from reaching an unobtainable goal.

Iv'e also somehow managed to find the time to squeeze a few wall pieces out recently...

INKF X Vanity Fair

I recently recieved the photo's from a 'set backdrop' job I did a little while back for the Italian edition of Vanity Fair.

I worked alongside photographer Chris Dunlop to recreate his vision of Venice beach. The shoot took place in a studio in East London where two truckloads of sand were imported along with a BMW that I got to splash some paint on! Some chick was also floating about. As far as imagery was concerned, I played with west coast tattoo/gothic influenced imagery...although alot of what I painted is obscured in the finished articles, I think the photo's are great so thought I'd share...

BBB festival - The results!

So Iv'e finally got to grips with this whole blogging thing so have decided to revamp some of my older posts and give you some long overdue info on what's been going down recently...

So as I mentioned in my pevious post, last month, myself and a bunch of the guys from Monorex were flown out to Barcelona to create some art work for the world famous Bread & Butter fashion show in Barcelona...most of the guys were there to customise trainers for Reebok whilst myself and Stika along with Tumki from Holland and Nada"One from Sweden were assembled to create a large scale mural decorating the entrance to the sportswear section of the event. Here are some flicks of what we did done...

The wall we'd been given to paint was made out of cardboard! With a huge area to cover we decided to sketch up and then fill in our outlines with emulsion...not the ideal circumstances for starting a mammoth production but we soliered on...
